Batsugun Judo Promotion
Many American judoka have come to expect batsugun promotions for every rank. Not everyone qualifies for minimum time in grade promotions. It is unfortunate,. Dan grading are usually held twice a year (June & November) and are announced by the BBR prior to the grading. The Dan grading will also be accompanied with Kata Kenshu and Batsugun competition. Dan Requirements. Dan requirements are detailed in the Grading Policy, Procedures, and Guidelines Manual found in the JA web site. Questions regarding the Dan requirements may be addressed to the JA.
Dan Grading SystemKodokan certifies Dan grades. You move up step by step from Shodan (1st Dan) to 2nd Dan, and then to 3rd Dan and so forth.There is a system called 'Batsugun' promotion in the Red and White Judo Contests to be held twice in a year respectively in Kodokan headquarters and Kodokan Osaka International Judo Center. This Batsugun system enables competitors who have got streak of wins required for Dan promotion in this contest to move up to the next Dan grade on the day.Please contact the International Department for any inquiries about Dan certification and for requests to reissue Dan certificates.
